Oceans\, space\, deserts\, and the imagination are vast. These artists’ works\, realistic to abstract\, interpret the theme Vastness. The artwork curated in this exhibition speaks to the nature of wide spaces and reach beyond the gallery’s windows to take our imaginations to limitless horizons.\nTarja Cockell has a degree in textile and design. Her work is influenced by the Scandinavian style of simplicity and clean lines.\nSandrine Colson is a storyteller. Her work is filled with paint swirls\, paper cut-outs\, acrylic pouring and three-dimensional objects. Her inspiration is the human soul\, nature\, master artists\, and the world around us.\nNan Hockenbury works with acrylic or oil paints\, pastels\, oil bars\, or any drawing medium on canvas or paper. The year 2025 marks 50 years since the first Southeast Asian refugees began to arrive in the US. They fled decades of civil conflicts. Commemorating this occasion\, the UMass Lowell Department of History and Center for Asian American Studies is providing insight about refugee history and experiences\, particularly those of Cambodian Americans\, who comprise a significant percentage of the Lowell community.  This exhibit is being organized by Dr. Christine Su\, Visiting Faculty of Southeast Asian Studies at Mass Lowell. \nProleung Khmer means “Khmer Soul\,” representing the blood\, sweat\, and tears that community members put forth after surviving the Khmer Rouge genocide. DESCRIPTION:October is always a special month in the Loading Dock Gallery show schedule. This year LDG presents Living in America\, a New England Regional juried show. Juried by Patrick McCay\, a professor at the Institute of Art and Design at New England College\, the selected artists use this time of change and pre-election discussion to reflect on their personal stories and what our great experiment means to them and answer the question\, “What does Living in America mean to you?” Using their varied mediums and unique perspectives\, their responses are on display for all to experience. \nWhether born and raised in America or a recent immigrant\, artists tell their stories with impressions of their personal experiences\, images of hometowns\, vacations\, family\, home\, work\, traditions with a focus on what it means to live in America: freedom\, justice\, community\, equality\, opportunity\, and patriotism.
